NON-ALCOHOLIC MINT JULEP #healthydrink #easyrecipe

No festival of the Kentucky Derby appears to be very appropriate without a Mint Julep. That cool, invigorating beverage of summer. While most contain liquor, we were searching for something other than what's expected. Here is our non-alcoholic mint julep everybody can appreciate at the Kentucky Derby.

The Today Show reports, "Mint juleps were served at Churchill Downs, the home of the Kentucky Derby, at the course's origin in 1875 and turned into a track staple in 1938, when they sold for 38 pennies each in trinket glasses, as indicated by Fred Minnick [of the Kentucky Derby Museum].

From 1938 through 1952 under 100,000 Kentucky Derby glasses were yearly created. As of February this year, 500,472 julep glasses have been made for Saturday's Kentucky Derby."

"The julep glass, which highlights a little horseshoe and holds 12 liquid ounces, assumes a significant job in Kentucky Derby legends. Customarily, the legislative head of Kentucky salutes the successful Derby proprietor with a toast at the elegant Winner's Party following the race."
